I've never thought about the allegory of the cave this much in depth but its totally possible to have the matrix scenario you're describing. Although I can't stop thinking about that thing where humans require human interaction or physical connection especially early on in life and that the VR would inhibit it in some way which could present a lot of problems. It's totally inhumane like you mentioned before but you'll totally have Russia and North Korea all over this shit once they get their hands on the right technology seeing as they couldnt give less of a fuck what the laws are. I can't imagine what it would be like to have your world glitch out or becoming self aware and experiencing the world for the first time but I would assume your narcissism would go through the roof thinking you surpassed all other humans.
